Ravel and "The White Stripes" - Same Same but Different?!

This is what Year 3 have been finding out in their lessons this week...






"Bolero" by Maurice Ravel:

This fantastic piece of music has a beautiful tune that gets passed around instruments and gets louder and louder. The whole piece is built on a repeated pattern played mostly on the drum throughout the entire piece.

 

"7 Nation Army" by The White Stripes:

This is a very different piece of music! However, it does have an important similarity to "Bolero". The bass guitar plays a repeated pattern that goes almost through the whole song (just like the drum played a repeated pattern throughout Bolero).
