Musician of the Month - Coldplay

This April, our Musician of the Month is Coldplay.

Coldplay (1996 to present)

Coldplay is a British rock band, comprised of Chris Martin (vocals/piano), Jonny Buckland (guitars), Guy Berryman (bass), and Will Champion (drums). They are known worldwide for their breakthrough single, 'Yellow' from their album Parachutes, which earned the band its first Grammy award in 2002.

The band's alternative rock style has been influenced by Travis, a Scottish rock band. Coldplay's music and lyrics reflect their emotions and feelings. 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' is the band's best known album, which includes the famous singles 'In My Place', 'Clocks', and 'The Scientist'. In their third album, Chris Martin's music became a reflection of fear, hope, and love. On the 19th of May this year, Coldplay will release their sixth album Ghost Stories. 

Coldplay has sold over 60 million records worldwide. They won eight Brit Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, and seven Grammy Awards.

Did you know that...

• Coldplay turned down the use of their music for endorsements like Diet Coke, Gatorade, and Gap. However, they support Apple by allowing them to use 'Viva La Vida' to support the iTunes Store. 
• They supported Paul McCartney's Meat Free Monday food campaign. This encourages families to have one day a week without eating meat.   
• All of the band members have children of their own. They demand ten days off every month to spend time with their families.
