Lionel Bart
(1930-1999)
Lionel Bart is most famous for creating the songs for our very own Production Club musical - Oliver!
He was born in London, UK and first wanted to become a painter. He was quite naughty at school and often got into trouble with his friends for not listening to his teachers. After school, Bart decided he didn't want to paint any more but instead wanted to create music.

- Did you know he wrote the words for the theme song for a James Bond film? Bart wrote the the song for the 1963 Bond film, 'From Russia with Love', with the help of John Barry for the music.
- Did you know that Oliver! was the first British musical to make it on the Broadway stage in America?
- Did you know that Lionel Bart couldn't write notated music? He instead hummed his songs to Eric Rogers who then wrote them all down.
- Did you know that Bart won an Ivor Novello Award for his lifetime achievement? He won the award in 1986 because he created so many wonderful songs, performed on stage in musicals and by pop bands.
