This term the children in Year 4 have been looking at djembe drumming. Did you know that Djembe drumming comes from the west coast of Africa. People use the drums to 'talk' to each other; to celebrate weddings and births; and to perform with dancers. Djembe means 'everyone gathers together in peace'.
Have a look at our videos below. We created our own ostinato rhythms and then layered them together to create a poly-rhythm. We used mnemonics to help us remember our patterns, such as 'I like bananas'; 'I hate cats, they're very scratchy'; 'I love unicorns' and 'I have a dog, a very big dog'.
